delivering immediate, tangible value to the mining
companies.
The following sections provide details on each element.
Blended Learning in the Workplace
All eight courses follow a blended learning approach which
makes the Metcelerate Professional Formation Program a
convenient, flexible training opportunity for companies to
offer groups of employees often based at remote mine sites
around the world.
Learners work through online material delivered on a
secure learning management system (LMS) at their own
pace. The self-paced learning is enhanced with weekly live
tutorials led by subject matter experts. These provide learn-
ers with the opportunity to discuss the online material or
operational issues they are facing with an experienced min-
eral processing practitioner, and to share experiences and
insights with peers from other mines and different com-
panies. To translate theoretical knowledge into plant prac-
tice, learners complete a written, practical assignment every
three weeks that often requires them to go into their plants.
The feedback we have received from learners over the
last five years shows that the blended learning approach
helps learners from all backgrounds develop their founda-
tional knowledge across the entire mineral processing flow-
sheet. Learners without a mineral processing background
have shared that the courses allow them to develop a com-
prehensive understanding of specialized topics. As three
learners noted:

Learners with mineral processing degrees value the
opportunity to revisit fundamental concepts they may have
overlooked or forgotten, or that were only taught at high
level at university. As three learners highlighted:

The courses focus on both technical fundamentals and
the practical application of knowledge in the workplace,
emphasizing how processing plants create value and how
engineers can contribute to improving this value. Feedback
from a research study done with the first cohort of learn-
ers at the end of 2020 (Metcelerate Customer Research
report, December 2020) showed that the program directly
enhances workplace practices and makes learners more con-
fident in their roles.
