644 XXXI International Mineral Processing Congress 2024 Proceedings/Washington, DC/Sep 29–Oct 3
The size of the HDS process required is 70% of the
HDS process size required in a conventional arrangement,
and does not require a gypsum stabilization process prior to
the Reverse Osmosis membranes.
This innovative technological arrangement maintains a
constant RO recovery of 70%.
In the cleaning cycles of the ultrafiltration membranes,
it is necessary to avoid contact with oxygen to avoid iron
precipitation that can foul the UF membranes.
Three cleaning procedures are required to maintain
adequate UF performance: acid, basic and bio-basic.
The RO can perform without the need of antiscalant.
During operation, a pH lower than 2.5 must be main-
tained to keep the Fe ion in an aqueous phase.
The limitation of this process is the concentration of
calcium and sulfate in the feed solution. The combination
of both could cause fouling in the Reverse Osmosis mem-
branes and reduce the treatment efficiency.
