Antapaccay Concentrator—70,000 tpd Copper
Concentrator, Peru
Antapaccay is located in the Yauri district of Espinar
Province, southern Peru, at 4,100 metres above sea level. It
is a porphyry skarn deposit containing copper-silver-gold.
It is located in Peru in the vicinity of the old Atalaya mine
and 9.4 km southwest from Tintaya Mine in Peru. Xstrata
purchased the mine from BHP Billiton and it is now owned
by Glencore. The plant produces a copper concentrate
that is transported by truck to the port site at Matarani. It
was started up in 2012. The plant design features a single
line grinding plant with one SAG and two ball mills. In
the past few years the production of the concentrator has
approached 100,000 tpd.
Los Pelambres—85,000 tpd Copper–Molybdenum
Concentrator, Chile
Los Pelambres is located in the Coquimbo region, 240 km
north of Santiago, Chile. The mine is at around 3,000 metres
above sea level and the concentrator is set at an elevation
just over 1,600 meters above sea level. It is a porphyry con-
taining copper-and molybdenum. It is located in Chile
and is run by Antofagasta Minerals AMSA. The plant pro-
duces a copper concentrate that is transported by pipeline
to the port site at Los Vilos, molybdenum concentrate is
also produced and transported by truck from the plant. It
was started up in 1999. The plant design features multiple
grinding lines including SAG and ball mills. It was the test
site for the first 257 m3 flotation cell. In the past few years
the production of the concentrator has approached over
175,000 tpd.
