saleable grade. This assertion is supported by prior research
at CanmetMINING on the Cantung Tailings (using 2020
sample) showing that even three stages of flotation clean-
ing failed to increase the copper grade to the required tar-
gets. As the copper content of the concentrate produced
in this study did not meet the established benchmarks, the
study’s focus shifted to more thoroughly address our pre-
viously stated objective of reducing the sulphide minerals
in the tailings to lower acid mine drainage. In our study,
we propose a process where the tailings are first treated to
