QUALITY OF SEPARATION
The quality of separation is evaluated by the suspended sol-
ids recovery, the percent total solids in the dewatered cake
and the polymer consumption. Adjusting operating param-
eters will determine the quality of these criteria. The quality
of the solids recovery can be evaluated visually. This rapid
feedback allows for optimization to focus on generating the
driest possible solids with acceptable centrate (Figure 11).
Centrate Clarity Produced by the Centrifuge
The following is the particle size distribution data of the
remaining suspended solids in the centrate is below. It
shows a range from Dv50 at just under 0.64µm Dv80 at
around 1.37µm and Dv90 at 1.37µm. Thus, very fine par-
ticles (Figure 12).
Later review of the centrate quality indicated the pres-
ence of dissolved solids in the centrate. This implied that
