solutions except for pine oil which was added as a single
drop only when necessary. The conditioning and flotation
times at each stage are shown in Table 3. The air flow rate
was set at 2.5L/min in all flotation stages. The combined
rougher concentrate was cleaned in a cleaner flotation stage
using a 1.3L flotation cell.
Lepidolite Flotation
The lepidolite ore sample of 500g (Sample C) was milled
for 20 mins in a rod mill charged with 6.3 kg of rods and
500mL of water to produce a slurry with a P80 of 50µm.
The milled ore was transferred into a 2.0L flotation cell
where water was added to the mark. The pH of the pulp was
adjusted to 3.5 using H2SO4 while agitating at 1000rpm.
Collectors (Armoflote ® 940 product and a combination of
Armeen ® T and Armeen ® C products ratio 2:1) were added
as 1% aqueous solution. Conditioning was carried out for
6 min. The flotation tests were done using a Denver D12
flotation machine with the air flow rate set at 2.5L/min.
Rougher flotation tests were carried out for 7 mins
while the two cleaning steps were performed for 6 and
5 mins respectively at an air rate of 1.5L/min and agitator
speed of 1,000 rpm.
RESULTS
Spodumene Flotation
Baseline Flotation (Rougher Flotation)
Figure 2 compares the rougher flotation performance of
TOFA, Atrac ® 2600 product plus TOFA, and Berol ®
8305 product. The ore shown in Table 1 was used in these
experiments. In general, the TOFA showed fast kinetics
when compared to the Berol ® 8305 product (Figure 2a),
however, Berol ® 8305 product was highly selective and
