HIGMill was 54% more energy efficient than the IsaMill.
From the above and analysis of Morrell, the use of
existing equipment to replace tumbling mills can deliver
highly significant reductions in energy demand, in suitable
duties, but what are the opportunities to introduce novel or
emerging technologies?
In terms of new, or novel, mechanical comminution
devices, the range is considerable and there is wide variation
in the nearness to market. Some examples are the Eccentric
Roll Crusher (ERC), CAHM, GRoll, Kelsy Superfine,
e-HPCC, Vortex Grinder. Of the equipment listed, the
ERC has been marketed since 2021 and in 2023, the first
unit was installed in a mining operation. Of the remaining
equipment they are all at different stages of evaluation and
development, but at the current time, they have not been
proven at an operational scale.
